THE GOOD GIRL HEALER X WELLNESS

Welcome back to our interview series, where we interview people in the wellness, beauty or fitness industry for an insight into their businesses and lives.

The Good Girl Healer, Emma is a certified Reiki Master, life coach and womb healer. She has been helping women create better lives for themselves since lockdown. She has had a love for spirituality since she was 14, and attended a lot of life coaching sessions in her adulthood. Emma has first hand experienced self doubt, that she healed herself through the same way she now heals other women! Emma is a huge inspiration and this interview is amazing!  Head over to Emmas instagram @balancebyemma_, and book one-off basis healing sessions or longer term bundles and subscriptions.

How are you? Tell me a little bit about yourself?

Hey lovely, I am really well thank you! Still currently in Goa enjoying its healing powers.
I’m Emma and I’m the Good Girl Healer. I guide women who were raised to keep quiet, put their needs last and who pride themselves on how much they do rather than who they are to heal at their root so they can transform their lives. I am a certified Reiki Master, life coach and womb healer and bring all of these tools into all of my practices.

When did you feel connected to your practices and what made you fall into this kind of business?

I had been attending spiritual groups since I was 14 and had Reiki quite regularly without knowing it was even Reiki! I was fascinated with Tarot and would have my cards read regularly too. However, it was lockdown when things really changed for me.
I had studied and worked in the fashion industry for 13 years and worked everywhere from high street retailers to designers to working in Paris. I changed jobs a lot because I never felt like I fit in anywhere and constantly chased the next promotion, or pay rise, or manager, because I wanted to make my family proud and it seemed like the ‘sensible’ thing to do. I forced myself into so many boxes and ended up absolutely miserable. In lockdown, I was working from home, had a huge pay-rise, a new manager, new department and I was still miserable so I knew something had to massively change.

I hired a life coach in 2019 and my healing journey began! I was able to get to the root causes of my behaviours and heal wounds I didn’t even realise I had. I loved it so much and saw how much it transformed my life so I trained to be a life coach. I found I wanted to work much closer with people’s energy so I then studied my Reiki levels 1&2 and became obsessed with the deep healing it enabled my clients to experience. This was then followed by more training (womb healing, hypnotherapy, crystal healing, neuro-linguistic programming, spiritual life coaching) and my business was truly born. My entire business was born from so much love and I only ever use tools that have personally worked for me and I have first hand experience of their powers. I know how it feels to never feel good enough, to be unable to set boundaries, to not express our emotions and the mental and physical damage this does to our bodies because it was me for so many years but it doesn’t have to be that way and I feel so honoured to be able to share this with others.

Explain what it is you do in detail?

So as a Good Girl Healer, I work with my clients either on a one-off basis or have longer term bundles and subscriptions.
I do hold space for one-off Reiki sessions and this is typically for those who feel burnt out, holding onto negative energy/emotions, struggling to switch off or even those who never take time just for them and want to come and relax for an hour. I offer these sessions online and in person (Peterborough only) and consist of a beautiful grounding meditation, Reiki healing and a mini coaching session at the end. For those not sure what Reiki is, it translates to Universal Life Force energy so it works with the energy that connects us all. It works with the chakra points in our bodies to uncover any energetic blockages and then releases and activates the energy again. All of our thoughts, emotions and experiences have their own energies and they can become stuck in our bodies and manifest into things like IBS, anxiety, struggles with boundaries, people pleasing, an inability to express emotions or opinions, perfectionism, lack of libido, there are so many ways it can affect us. Reiki is a beautiful tool to re-energise and give clarity on those places you feel stuck.

However, if you’re wanting a deep healing experience then one-off sessions won’t cut it. I do offer Reiki in bundles and also have a monthly subscription so you can experience its magic regularly which helps to remain grounded and connected to your body.

Inner Child Healing was (and still continues to be) such a huge part of my healing journey. I offer a six week programme where we will meet once a week to connect to and heal your inner child. This is so powerful as we unearth your limiting beliefs, where they come from, heal at the root and also connect back to the fun we used to have as children - letting go of the fear of judgement, letting our imagination be free, to play and feel a deep sense of freedom. Our sessions can include coaching, visualisations, hypnotherapy, Reiki and grounding techniques and it’s for the souls that feel stuck with their perfectionism, their people pleasing (inability to say no!), holding themselves back and put their needs to the bottom of the list.

I then also offer Feminine Energy Healing on a six week programme too. This is for those that base thier worth on how much they do, stuck in hustle mode constantly, lack creativity, struggle to express themselves or are disconnected from their intuition. We will work across many healing techniques such as coaching, womb healing, Reiki, visualisations, hypnotherapy and also helps with manifesting and building trust (not only with others but within ourselves too!). It’s a beautiful journey that brings us back home to us.

But if you want all of the above, I do have a monthly subscription where we will meet once a month for 90 minutes (online only) and the session is bespoke to you and your needs at that time. So we can include Reiki, Feminine Energy Healing, Inner Child Healing, hypnotherapy, meditations or coaching depending on where your energy needs to heal.

Throughout all of my sessions, we create deep self love and acceptance, purpose and power. Whether you come to me for a one-off session or join my membership I pour my heart and soul into every single minute we spend together and creating a safe space for you to explore and heal is the best feeling in the world for me.

What is your morning routine?

I honestly really struggle with a morning routine and I tend to intuitively feel into what it is I need that day. I find forcing myself to have structure doesn’t work for me at all so I keep it very flexible!

What advice would you give someone who felt they were stuck in a rut and wanted to widen their mindset?

Get back to basics and be really honest with yourself. Take a look at the bigger picture and really ask yourself some difficult questions without judging yourself, without expectation and without following what you think others would want for you. Get back to you and who you are at your core. I’ll include some journal prompts below:

Which areas of my life right now are feeling out of balance? (ie. work, friends, family, money, relationship etc)
What are the consequences of these imbalances? (ie. not being able to spend more time with my family, constantly burnt out, don’t feel valued, not feeling fulfilled)
Looking at your imbalances, what does that tell you about what’s important to you? (ie. spending quality time with my family is important, being recognised for my hard work is important, having an equal friendship is important, feeling like I am being listened to is important)
All of the above create your values (family oriented, recognition, equality etc) and it’s a really good place to start by looking at where these values of yours aren’t being met. If they aren’t being met, what changes do you need to make in order for them to be met? (ie. can you ask for more help, taking your lunch break instead of working through it every day, booking a date night once a month, learning a new skill)

Sometimes these questions can be difficult to answer but just sit with them and be curious to see what comes up for you. Gifting yourself some space will help with clarity and can open doors that will transform your life. Get your comfies on, some relaxing music and be open to explore.

What is your go to coffee order?

This is probably a VERY unpopular opinion - I honestly can’t stand coffee but since I have been in Goa I have discovered a new found love for iced teas in any fruit combination available to me! Peach is my absolute fave though.

Your favourite affirmation?

I am perfectly imperfect.

List 5 things everyone can do to better their mental wellbeing..

Understanding the importance of conversation - I’m not talking about the weather or what we are having for dinner or who has been kicked out of Love Island (although I do love a bit of drama). It’s those conversations where you open yourself up to learning, growing and connecting.
Learn to say no - we absolutely cannot do and be everything all at once.
Have a good cry - I truly believe crying is one of the best things you can do for yourself. It not only releases trapped emotions but also releases excess cortisol from our bodies and allows us to relax.
Know that self-care and self-love are different. Sometimes bubble baths and candles aren’t going to heal things - if we truly want to feel deep self love for ourselves we need to dig deeper.
Build a strong connection to your intuition - our bodies are constantly giving us signs on how we feel, what to do, where to go but we often choose to ignore it and override it with logic. Creating trust within yourself is power.

How do you practice gratitude?

I still find gratitude a hard practice to do but if I am feeling particularly rubbish about a certain situation or feeling stuck I will get out my journal and write thanks to the beautiful things in my life. This includes having my eyesight, the ability to walk and breathe, grateful for my body for its ability to touch as well as people and experiences in my life. We went through a stage of writing them on post-it notes and sticking them to our bathroom mirror so we see it each morning!

We all have so much to be grateful for even when it feels tough.

How was your recent retreat? What did you get up to? Can you share a photo?

It was amazing! It was the first time I have ever travelled on my own so I was super nervous but was so proud of myself for doing it. It was hosted by my Reiki teacher (and now friend) and was all about feminine energy so it was jam packed of sister circles, womb healing, deep chats, yoga, drum circles and Reiki. Before the retreat I completed my Reiki Master training so I was able to attune someone else to the energy whilst I was there which was magic too.
It massively pushed me out of my comfort zone - I found myself asking some really difficult questions whilst I was there, journaling a lot, connecting lots of dots, being honest about how I was feeling, but also such huge lessons in letting go and trusting. I am a massive control freak but being in Goa really taught me the beauty of just surrendering and allowing things to just be with the belief that it will all work out in the end. Perfect example of this was in the yoga class the instructor told me to jump onto the aerial swing and to let go so I can hang upside down - I was absolutely terrified of releasing my hands and trusting I won’t fall but as you can see in the photo I did it and it was the best feeling ever. There is real beauty in learning to let go.

Your favourite influencer, in terms of wellbeing?

Another maybe unpopular opinion but I don’t follow influencers on any social media platforms. I have extremely intentional with who I follow and absorb as I found myself comparing, feeling rubbish etc so I now have a rule, if their page isn’t teaching me something or making me feel good they don’t get a follow!

What do you like to do for fun on your days off?

I am a huge advocate for a movie day on the sofa with a big box of malteasers and a blanket BUT I also love packing up my boyfriend’s van and going for a hiking weekend somewhere. It’s definitely not something we do often enough but I love the feeling of exploring somewhere new and getting fresh air. So grounding!

What does wellness mean to you?

Wellness to me means whole - it means connecting our mind, bodies and souls and treating them equally with love.
